A Catalyst for Change

An incredible opportunity exists before American Muslims to become a catalyst for change in their time. Rarely in human history has any minority had an opportunity so large and so compelling. Due to our needs, to our responsibilities to society, and to the opportunities right in front of us, we have come together as American Muslims to form Muslims for Peace, Justice and Progress (MPJP).

Our main goals are the following:

  1. To work towards the common interests and welfare of both America and the Muslim world – a win-win situation.
  2. To promote conflict resolution and constructive engagement that can offer diplomatic alternatives to military engagement.
  3. To engage with the due process, the governing institutions, and the civil society to create a dialogue of change.
  4. To help raise a moderate and effective voice to invalidate extremism and bigotry.
  5. To work against Islamophobia and the negative stereotypes of Muslims in the West, and to help uplift the image and position of Muslims and their respective work in America and beyond.
  6. To engage with the Muslim majority societies to promote people-to-people dialogue.
  7. To help to consolidate our diverse community and to raise a visionary leadership.

Unity in Diversity

Unity in diversity has achieved great things in the past, and it can perform the same role among Muslims today. Our legitimacy and momentum can only come from a united front. Unity does not mean resolution of all issues and dissolution of all differences in a diverse group such as our own. Instead, we need to work together on the basis of commonalities and common interest. We have compelling common interests. The Muslim world remains desperately in need of speedy economic and social transformation that can help to reduce the hopelessness and volatility that exists among a fast-growing generation of youth, frustrated and restless regarding the ways their societies are managed. Dangerous possibilities lurk on the horizon, and prospects of untold human misery demand an urgent focus, a forceful leadership, and courageous activism. Conversely, Western Muslims are also victims of ‘Islamophobia’ and negative stereotypes. This mischaracterization will continue unless and until a positive, loyal, and vibrant group of Western Muslim citizens emerges as peacemakers in our time. MPJP's work and mission statement remains dedicated towards achievement of these paramount goals. We want Western Muslims to become a catalyst of change in our time.
